Binaural Field Recording, 1-2 day workshop

Josefinlindebrink_binauralworkshop_header

During this workshop we discuss sonic interaction with physical space, spatialized sound and perception of sound fields. The workshop also offers an introduction to both DIY as well as commercially available technology for performing binaural field recording. We discuss important points in recording immersive auditory environments and partcipants learn how to build their own binaural microphone set-up.

No prior knowledge is necessary for participation in this workshop.

Participants bring their own recording devices if such cannot be provided by the workshop organizer/venue.

More on binaural technology:

Binaural technology is based on recording and reproduction at the ear canal. Binaural recording, unlike other stereo techniques, includes important reflections from our upper body (torso, head and pinna). These reflection patterns are strongly connected to our ability of localizing events occurring around us. Thus sound fields can be reproduced that are immersive, containing information from all dimensions of space. This technique provides an alternative to surround sound recording and reproduction. Binaural recording requires two microphones that are placed within the pinna. Microphones can be placed in your own ears or on a dummy head. Binaural audio should be heard through headphones.
